The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law designed to protect the privacy of education records, to establish the right of students to inspect and review their education records, and to provide guidelines for how this information can be released.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directory Information<\/strong><br \/>\nSaint Peter\u2019s University defines directory information as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student Name and Spirit Number<\/li>\n<li>Address, Telephone and Email address <\/li>\n<li>Date and place of birth <\/li>\n<li>Program major(s)\/concentration(s), and minor(s) <\/li>\n<li>Student activities including athletics <\/li>\n<li>Dates of attendance <\/li>\n<li>Date of graduation, degrees sought\/conferred, and other academic awards <\/li>\n<li>Most recent previous school attended and\/or High School <\/li>\n<li>Academic awards and scholarships, including Dean\u2019s List <\/li>\n<li>Enrollment Status (full or part-time)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Designate a Proxy Access to Your Academic Record<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you wish to waive your rights under FERPA and grant permission for Saint Peters University to release academic information upon receipt of a written request or verification of photo identification (for in-person requests) please submit a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/blogs.dir\/110\/files\/2017\/02\/FERPA-Consent-Release-Student-Information.pdf\">FERPA Consent to Release Student Information<\/a>\u201d to the University Registrar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Withhold the Release of All Student Information<\/strong><br \/>\nIn accordance with FERPA, the University does not release student record information without prior written consent except where permitted by law. FERPA allows for the release of &#8220;directory information&#8221; items without prior student consent.  If you wish to keep your student directory information private please consider the consequences. Executing the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/blogs.dir\/110\/files\/2017\/02\/FERPA-Request-to-Withhold-Student-Information.pdf\">FERPA Request to Withhold Student Information<\/a>\u201c will suppress your information in printed form (i.e. Commencement Program, Dean\u2019s List, etc.) and will make information unavailable to prospective employers, insurance companies and others to whom you may want this information known or verified. The University assumes no liability for honoring your instructions that such information be withheld.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Letter of Recommendation<\/strong><br \/>\nWritten permission from the student is required for a letter of recommendation if any information included in the recommendation is part of the \u201ceducation record\u201d (grades, GPA, and other non-directory information).
